What’s your Tier?

In Fighting Games there is a way to determine the overall strength and ability of a character, this term is called “Tier”, and depending on the tier of character you are playing gives you an advantage when fighting the other characters in the game. There is a similar system or word we use in the real world dating/relationship scene that is closely related to this terminology and that is “Leagues”.

If you can play games you can play “The Game”

For this article I will be drawing the similarities between Video gaming and the Pick-up game. As a reference for this post I will be using the Mystery Method (Pick-up Artist) to draw my conclusions. This one I found pretty fun to dive into being that I love games, and I was interested to find a scarlet thread between the two. It is interesting to find that so many gamers are identified as social failures. I think that is in part the fault of us gamers. In this post I will try to show you that if used correctly, and with a changed outlook that the same skills you use to beat video games are the very same when playing “The Game.”

Not Talking About Your Hobbies

Awkward For the Win

The truth is regardless if you’re a guy or girl who is into anime or video games, your bf/gf or date may not be into them (or not as much as you are). People tend to try to hold conversations about things they are comfortable with and good at, the problem arises when that becomes a one sided conversation.

How many times have you had someone start talking to you about a topic you have little experience or knowledge of like: politics, architecture, religion, fashion, or sports? Picking up Women at the Club

Windigo made an excellent comment in his last post about Otaku’s having some serious dance skills. However weather you’re an Otaku, Nerd, or Geek that happens to be an amazing dancer or not, that doesn’t mean you’re are using it to your advantage.

I can’t count how many times I have gone with a group of friends to the club only to see some of them line up on the wall with their drinks and watch everyone have a good time. You have got to put yourself out there, talk up women at the bar, or get out there and show off and the dance floor. Continue reading

Just because I’m an otaku doesn’t mean…

In the as I like to call it “オタク の じだい” (Otaku no Jidai/Era of the Otaku) more and more people are starting to identify with that term. With the help anime, manga, video games becoming more mainstream, it opens a new door that could very well change the basic stereotypes of a geeks everywhere. I’d like to use myself and a few of my friends as an example to show you the changes that are taking place. In my group of friends we are all anime watching, video game playing, computer tech geeks, but and a BIG but we still find people that are surprised when they find out our interest while talking over cup of coffee or a margarita. I will lay out a few points that I think are some of the biggest stereotypical hurdles that social you will have to deal with or change in people’s minds.

Avoid DeathNote Logic

Those of you who are familiar with the anime DeathNote, probably already realize where we are going with this. For those of you not familiar with the anime you can watch the episodes on youtube or look it up on wikipedia.

The short version:
The character Light Yagami constantly tries to outwit the police and detectives and those around him by anticipating and calculating every possible move they will make, every question they could or would ask, and having a ready reaction and response that works to his overall advantage.

This will sound very familiar to many of you because you constantly do it when getting ready to approach or interact with people you are interested in. JUST STOP RIGHT NOW.
