Awkward For the Win
The truth is regardless if you’re a guy or girl who is into anime or video games, your bf/gf or date may not be into them (or not as much as you are). People tend to try to hold conversations about things they are comfortable with and good at, the problem arises when that becomes a one sided conversation.
How many times have you had someone start talking to you about a topic you have little experience or knowledge of like: politics, architecture, religion, fashion, or sports? It wasn’t comfortable “waiting for your turn to speak” was it? In most cases when you start rambling about a video game, card game, anime or comic, or something technical, you are leaving the other person lost and uncomfortable.
To be able to hold better conversations try talking about more general things like current events, or a recent experience, or even try asking them more about themselves in attempt to find out if you have anything in common. Talk about family, pets, celebrities, music, the last movie you saw, or tell an interesting story that anyone can follow.
Avoid talking to long about sensitive subjects like: religion, politics, sexuality, or anything that can make you seem bias or undesirable. These things may be important to you on some level, but you’re not proposing (or expecting) marriage here, little issues like your opinion shouldn’t stand between you making out with a hot girl/guy for a few minutes (LOL).
Again the only way to be less awkward when talking to people is to get used to the idea and do it in as many different situations with as many people as possible.
